Diversity of the US Public Health Workforce Pipeline (2016–2020): Role of Academic Institutions

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted existing structural racism that widened gaps in access to care and health outcomes, disproportionately affecting racial and ethnic minorities. Research has shown that a racially and ethnically diverse workforce can be instrumental in addressing disparities. Lack of diversity in the public health workforce can occur from several factors, including underrepresentation of minority groups in the public health education pipeline.

This article discusses the analysis of 5 academic years which identifies institutional characteristics associated with public health student diversity, including faculty diversity.
