The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a profound impact on the health workforce in the United States. Current issues facing the health workforce include vaccine mandates, workforce shortages, and resiliency of the workforce in the face of burnout. At the same time, while some of the changes to state and federal laws regarding the delivery of telehealth services have been made permanent, others have been allowed to expire, leaving providers and patients unsure of the coverage for these services.
This site is dedicated to providing planners and policy makers with up-to-date information on COVID-19 and the health workforce. Key areas of focus are:
Vaccine Administration
Information about the effort to vaccinate the health workforce against COVID-19 and best practices for health care providers to improve vaccination rates.
Health Workforce Shortages
Information on how the COVID-19 pandemic is creating workforce shortages, as well as organizational efforts to recruit and retain their workforce.
Telehealth
Information on the rapid expansion in use of telehealth for health care delivery. Topics include telehealth impacts on access to care and telehealth-related changes to health workforce regulations, service requirements, and funding.
Health Workforce Resilience
Information about pandemic risks to health care workers and strategies being used to protect them from COVID-19, prevent and address burnout, and support their well-being.
HWRC COVID-19 Resources
Each of the health workforce research centers (HWRCs) across the US are assisting in these efforts. These are specific resources developed by the HWRCs.
